Miller to lead data warehouse strategy.

Vodafone Hutchison Australia's big data strategist has jumped ship to Seven West Media to lead the broadcast and publishing giant's ambitious analytics plans.

Vodafone's data guru nabbed by Seven
David Miller.

David Miller, former general manager of business intelligence at Vodafone, will join Seven West Media over the coming weeks.

Miller joined Vodafone following its 2009 merger with Hutchison. He has experience in data management and analysis from his time with O2 and British Gas in the UK.

During his tenure at Vodafone, Miller built up the telco's business intelligence team to over 40 staff, and played a key role in the management of Vodafone's Teradata warehouse.

Vodafone has a long-running global relationship with the data analytics provider and holds one of the largest Teradata implementations worldwide.

Miller will lead Seven West Media through its planned switch-on of a data warehouse later this year - a result of a partnership with data analytics company Acxiom.

Seven West Media is the parent company for Pacific Magazines, the Seven television network, West Australian newspaper and the Yahoo! online platform.

“David knows big data,” chief revenue officer Kurt Burnette said in a statement today.

“And he has an enviable track record on delivery for Vodafone Hutchison Australia. We are looking forward to him joining us and driving our moves into data analytics and playing key role in shaping our business strategies as we build our presence across all forms of digital delivery of content and create one-on-one connections with our audiences.”

Miller said he was “enormously excited” by the opportunity to lead Seven West Media’s big data charge.

“The future of the media industry will be shaped by the companies that successfully transform their businesses through the innovative use of their data assets,” he said in a statement.
