Australia Post is paring back the number of technology service providers it works with, unveiling a panel of five that will be offered future work.

The postal service said that its new panel comprises Capgemini, Deloitte, Kyndryl, IBM and Infosys.

Executive general manager of enterprise services Michael McNamara said that Australia Post wanted to build and develop “strategic partnering” arrangements with a smaller number of services companies.

“As Australia Post works to become financially sustainable, it makes sense to streamline and reduce the number of technology providers we work with,” McNamara said.

“This creates economies of scale and greater flexibility to bring in specialist resources as and when we need them for significant projects.”

McNamara said that the panel arrangement followed earlier decisions about strategic technology platforms.

This included a wide-ranging agreement struck with Salesforce earlier this year, as well as a contract renewal with Microsoft.

The decisions around technology enablement and sourcing are intended to support a broader transformation and simplification program at Australia Post that is known as Post26.

“Digitisation, automation and simplification of products and services are key to Australia Post’s Post26 strategy to deliver a market leading digital experience for customers,” the organisation said in a statement.

“Like all major business enterprises, Australia Post continues to make considered technology investments to keep pace with advancements in AI, data security and cloud computing.”
