In fact, he says as the world navigates the dynamic intersection of sustainability and technology, including the rise of AI, it's crucial to delve into the details of constructing eco-friendly infrastructure. “We must understand the profound implications for the future landscape of cloud computing.” 

Maiolo highlights the shift from sustainability being perceived as mere “lip service” to becoming a genuine priority for executives and organisations. What’s more, he acknowledges the challenges businesses face in balancing the need for high-performance computing with sustainability goals but highlights the opportunity for alignment. 

"Businesses can achieve both fiscal responsibility and environmental sustainability. It's not a choice between the two."

At the same time, the rise of emerging technologies like AI brings with it a growing demand for high-compute solutions. 

Maiolo emphasises the need for data centre providers to ensure these solutions are not only powerful, but also environmentally responsible. He discusses OVHcloud's innovative approach to sustainable data centres, including proprietary water cooling technology, which significantly reduces power consumption and water usage.

"Data centres need to take up that responsibility around their power consumption, their cooling, etc. It's the only way to get to a more sustainable future."

Looking ahead, Maiolo shares insights into OVHcloud's commitment to continuous innovation and sustainability. He discusses the company's carbon footprint calculator, empowering customers to track their environmental impact, and its dedication to zero waste to landfill by 2025.
