Cancer Council NSW has found a new chief information officer with Mathews George taking over from Frances Waterford.
George kicked off his new role mid-November as Waterford left the organisation after four-and-a-half years.
In the new position, George oversees IT leadership for NSW, covering strategy, priorities, risk mitigation, cyber security and digital transformation.
He is also in charge of leading the IT business unit which is accountable for the management of Cancer Council NSW’s IT services, IT security and infrastructure, and IT application development and delivery.
George reports to the Cancer Council NSW’s chief operating officer (COO), Greg Bisset.
Bisset welcomed George to the organisation in a LinkedIn post stating George “has held senior IT leadership roles in both for-purpose and for-profit organisations, and has an excellent track record of delivering business value through strategic technology transformation and delivery.”
George also wrote on LinkedIn that he had finished “another chapter in my career” after wrapping up his role as CIO at The Smith Family.
“We achieved great things in the last five years, most significantly added another 20,000 students (50 percent increase) on the Learning for Life program that provides support to help disadvantaged children and young people with their education,” George wrote.
He said he was most proud of “having built a team that punches above their weight", and a team culture that puts the customer first and continues to shift from "doing agile to being agile".
He also wrote that “implementing a modern IT operating model built around customer value streams, cross-functional squads, and technology platforms" and also “developing and executing a Microsoft-first cloud strategy, simplifying the technology architecture and optimising risks and costs" were highlights.
“As I move onto my next adventure I can say with my lived experience that if you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together.”
A spokesperson for The Smith Family (TSF) told iTnews Minu Ganesh has stepped in as acting CIO following the departure of George.
“Minu has been with TSF for five years as the data platform manager and driving the data modernisation program," the spokesperson said.
